The vlab brings together people from engineering, computer science, and the wider community to build future transportation solutions.
We adapted the kart's rear end to be driven by an electric motor. The chassis we bought was designed originally for a gas engine. We needed to reposition the drive train on the rear axle to configure it for our electric motor instead. Next meeting we'll be ready to mount the motor!
Over Spring break the EV Race Team took delivery of the Dreamer X5 chassis from TopKart USA! The Dreamer X5 is a go kart chassis designed for gas racing. The team plans to convert it to be powered by an electric motor to compete in the evGrandPrix. Thanks to team captian Carlos Alcala for driving down to Indiana to pick up the chassis from TopKart! Thanks to our sponsor Clark Devon Hardware for providing the tools to work on the kart!
The Loyola EV Race Team is raising money to compete in the evGrandPrix! Students will build and tune an electric go kart to race on April 18, 2026. We have We have $10,000 committed from the Computer Science Department, and we are looking to raise a total of $20,000 for the project. Contact us to sponsor!

The VLAB builds and tinkers with vehicles. In Spring 2026, we will be building and racing an electric go kart in the evGrandPrix! Members of the lab will get hands-on experience assembling the suspension, body, and drive train of a real car. We meet Monday and Wednesday evenings for 3-4 hours to work on the kart. Check out the schedule below for a tenative meeting plan in Spring 2026.
This is an educational process for all of us: community partners, donors, students and faculty. We're all here to learn things. The VLAB is open to all of our stakeholders, and we hope to see you at a build session!
